Polar Bears & Climate Change Presentation
We attended a learning vacation at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada focusing on polars bears, human conflict, and climate change. We would like to share what we learned in our presentation which will be part informative and part slideshow. This event is for anyone who loves polar bears and/or is interested in climate change in the Canadian Arctic. Presentation will be in Beach Hall at First UU, and we will have cookies and hot beverages after the presentation.
There is a full moon on September 10, which also happens to be our 45th wedding anniversary. Help us celebrate by watching the movie "Moonstruck." This 1987 romantic comedy, starring Cher and Nicholas Cage, tells the tale of three generations of an Italian-American family and their adventures and misadventures in love. If you haven't seen this movie, you need to see it. If you saw it a long time ago, you need to see it again. It never gets old! We'll accompany the movie with Italian wine and snacks/hors d'oeuvres.
There is really no way to hold this event outside, so if Covid is still with us, we'll reschedule, hopefully at the next full moon. We ask that attendees be vaccinated.

Home Solar System Purchase - Home Owner Experience Based Presentation for Buyers
Thinking of installing a solar panel system at your home? Or just curious about these systems? If so, you won't want to miss this Zoom presentation by the First UU EcoJustice group (no vendors present). A 45-minute presentation followed by a 45-minute Q&A session will be hosted by First UU homeowners who have solar panel systems installed at their homes. Topics will include (1) the process from engaging a vendor through switching on the system, (2) what equipment is installed, (3) approximate cost and financing options (often surprisingly low cost), (4) viability for homes without a South-facing roof (good news!), (5) monitoring and maintenance, (6) what happens if you need a new roof or move, and (7) the federal tax credit. Note that "off-grid" systems and backup batteries will not be covered.
Note that the pricing is per household. This presentation also offered on 3/28/2022.

This popular event is bigger and better. SIX cooks will demo their plant-based culinary skills. Enjoy generous samples and learn to make the healthy & climate friendly dishes. And enjoy the company as we will meet in person at the church; backup location is a backyard in Clintonville. Because we’re meeting in person we request that all participants be vaccinated.
